Summer is the time when we go outside more, entertain guests, and have more fun. It is also the time when it is very easy to let our homes get dirtier than usual. You probably don’t want to spend your summer days cleaning your house from top to bottom, however, if you want to keep your home looking its best, a deep clean is necessary. Here are some tips to do just that.
Start with the windows
The sun shines brighter in summer, so it is more likely that dirt and fingerprints will show up on your windows. To clean your windows, mix two cups of water with a quarter cup of vinegar and a drop of dish soap. Put this solution in a spray bottle and spritz it on your windows. Wipe the windows clean with a lint-free cloth.
Next, move on to the floors
Sweep or vacuum all the floors in your house, including hardwood, laminate, tile, and carpet. If you have hardwood floors, you can mop them with a solution of water and vinegar. For tile or linoleum floors, mix a half cup of vinegar with a gallon of hot water. Mop the floor as usual. If you have carpet, vacuum it thoroughly and then shampoo it to get rid of any dirt or stains.
The bathroom
The bathroom is one of the most important rooms to deep clean in your house. Start by cleaning the toilet. Scrub the bowl with a toilet brush and then flush. Next, clean the outside of the toilet with a disinfecting wipe or a cloth soaked in a vinegar and water solution (yes, once again). Wipe down the sink, counter, and faucets next. Finally, sweep and mop the floor.
The kitchen
The kitchen is another room that needs to be deep cleaned on a regular basis. Start by wiping down all the surfaces, including the counters, backsplash, stovetop, and outside of the fridge. Then, clean the inside of the fridge. Throw away any expired food and give the shelves a good scrub. Don’t forget to sweep and mop the floor too!
The living room
The living room is probably the place where you have the most stuff so you might think it would be the hardest room to clean. But, if you have a plan, it doesn’t have to be! Start by decluttering. Get rid of anything that you don’t use. Then, dust all surfaces, including bookshelves, end tables, and the TV. Vacuum or sweep the floor last.
These are just a few tips to help you deep clean your house this summer. House cleaning doesn’t sound too fun, especially if it is hot outside, but a clean house will make all the difference when you have company over or just want to relax in your own space. So, roll up your sleeves and get to work!
