Our mission is to CREATE COMMUNITY and bring people together while SERVING delicious vegan treats.

To help with this mission, we strive to have a space that feels comfortable and welcoming for everyone. We've put a lot of hard work, time, and love into it, and we hope you enjoy it.

We make all of our baked goods and ice cream in-house in our tiny kitchen. Everything, even the ice cream, is made fresh every day. We use mostly organic ingredients, locally grown fruits as much as possible, and we are committed to using non-GMO ingredients always. As much as we can, we support businesses that closely mirror our own ethics of fair wages, a small environmental footprint, and those that are independently operated.

We pay our employees a fair wage and we offer regular pay raises and sick time. Employees working 24+ hours/week receive a weekly health care stipend. Employees working 32+ hours/week also earn vacation time.

We fund raise for non-profit organizations as often as we can. Our 2018/2019 donations have included: Old Dog Haven, Austin Pets Alive, Young Women Empowered, Treehouse for Kids, Camp Ten Trees, United Indians of All Tribes Foundation, Entre Hermanos, Coyote Central, DAWN Seattle, Technology Access Foundation, Luvable Dog Rescue, Gay City, and more!

Hi! We're Chelsea & Chris (and Filbert Hazelnut the dog), the owners at The Cookie Counter. Chris was born & raised in Seattle and Chelsea moved here from Minneapolis in 2004. We are a couple of long time ethical vegans (Chelsea since 2004, Chris since 1998) that met at the grocery store of course.

At some point in our conversations, we both wondered why a vegan ice cream shop or even a vegan ice cream truck didn't exist here in Seattle. Sometime after that, we got married, pondered that idea some more...worked on an ice cream recipe, said, "what the heck," and made a Kickstarter video. And in 2014, we started Seattle's first vegan ice creamery!

At that time we were only able to sell our treats out of our '74 VW bus. Here we are now, we've perfected our recipes, and we've got a shop! Most mornings we wake up and can't believe this is a reality. It's been a real whirlwind and we're still learning, growing, and improving every day.

We really hope you enjoy the treats we make, the space we've put together, and our combined efforts to bring you something special. We still work at the shop most days of the week so come say hi! If we're not there, you'll be helped by our wonderful staff.

ASK CHELSEA ANYTHING:

tori amos, being an infj, midwestern work ethic, dog breed characteristics, and real ghost stories.

ASK PHIl ANYTHING:

eating home-cooked meals, living with just one eye, being named after a nut, being an adorable shih-tzu, why cats are in charge, why to sniff, and accepting love.
